Melissa was born and raised in the peach state of Georgia, in the small town of Atlanta. She came to Jacksonville, Florida by way of the armed forces . While actively serving in the military, she completed her bachelor’s in psychology with Florida State College and upon retirement, went on to obtain a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Prior to her mental health counseling pursuits, Melissa dutifully served our country for 22 years in the United States Navy,. During her service, she provided sound counsel and proven leadership through the mediums of respect, empathy, equity, understanding, and positive role modeling. What is more, Melissa willfully demonstrates that same level of care, commitment, and trustworthiness, with her clients.
Through the service of others, Melissa finds that life is lived happier, fuller, and with more gratitude. Whether serving in the military, advocating for survivors of sexual assault, and abused and neglected children, or humbly serving others through the lens of mental health counseling, being of service to others is both, a personal calling and a professional passion.
Melissa is currently working towards her licensure in Clinical Mental Heath Therapy. Her professional counseling experiences encompass an array of presenting concerns including anxiety, anger management, emotional dysregulation, depression, crisis intervention and the developmental challenges of adolescence.
Outside of work, she thoroughly enjoys spending time with family and friends, being in nature, and engaging in various self-care pastimes including exercise, meditation, reading, singing, dancing, and listening to the blues. Of note, Melissa openly admits her singing is horrible, but she does not let that stop her.
